Quick Bio

Dr Richard Stanford specialises in research-based, art residencies with scientific and medical institutions. For 15 years his residency practice has given him the opportunity to work amongst people with all sorts of extraordinary capabilities, including many of Australia’s top scientists. His research and art practice has focused on cross-disciplinary relationships between art and science.
Over the past few years Richard has focussed his attention exclusively on brain science and has established long-term projects with the Pearson Lab and the Prince of Wales Institute of Medical Research in the development of empirical research around cognitive links between vision and visual representation.
In addition to his research he is currently developing a set of studio artworks entitled Brain Map Series. An example from the series above shows one of the works that was derived from sagittal slice of cerebellum. Brain Map Casein, lime, pigment and acrylic medium on rosewood 80cm high.
